Flagrant Delice by Terry de Gunzburg
Ever since I was a child, I have always loved the taste and scent of all things creamy. Ice cream (vanilla), milk, coffee (with milk), nuts, nut milks, and so on. When I learned how to make chai with milk for the first time, I was over the moon. When in Hawaii I watched a chef straining the milk out of the white pulp of a coconut, my eyes doubled in size. So naturally, in a perfume, I gravitate towards the warm creamy lactonic notes that evoke the scent of nuts, of beaches and suntan lotion, and creamy indolic flowers like jasmine and gardenia. Although Flagrant Delice is not floral, it is one of my absolute favorites. It’s a playful yet sophisticated fragrance that uplifts my mood and spirit.
Terry de Gunzburg’s Flagrant Delice is infused with almond, sun-ripened fig, and that familiar note of cream that I love so much. It’s a bit green, a little sweet, but not too much. Imagine a confectioner brewing a batch of fig ice cream. Before he adds the sugar, he smells the natural sweetness of the cream as he bites into the fresh figs sitting on the platter below. It’s something truly unique and unforgettable. Even as my tastes change and I find new scents that I like, I will always have this in my collection.
